Our Origin Story

Why I Created Legacy Heirloom

Legacy Heirloom was created from my personal experience with a common challenge that millions of families face each year.

After my grandmother passed away at 91, I helped my dad clear out her house filled with a lifetime of belongings. Every room held objects connected to memories, relationships, and family history, but very little had been documented. We had one handwritten list with wishes for about twenty items. Everything else was left to interpretation.

Most families are left making these decisions about a loved one's belongings without context, often during periods of stress or grief.

Every item carries questions:

What is this?

Where did they get it from?

Does anyone even know the story behind it?

Would they have wanted us to keep this?

Does anyone in the family want it?

Legacy Heirloom was created to take the guesswork out of those moments. Not by asking people to document everything they own, but by helping them preserve the things that truly matter and the meaning connected to them.

What it does today

A more meaningful way to preserve family context

Legacy Heirloom is already providing real value for families who want more clarity around the belongings that matter most.

Today, members can:

  • Add photos and descriptions for meaningful belongings
  • Capture stories through voice, video, or text
  • Record wishes and intended recipients
  • Invite family members to collaborate
  • Download practical reports that complement estate planning and insurance documentation
Legacy Heirloom shown on desktop and mobile. The desktop displays an item detail page with a story written by a family member. The mobile shows a family vault with several documented items.

Many members begin with a few meaningful objects. A wedding ring. An antique lamp. Military medals. The platter used to serve the turkey every Thanksgiving.

The goal is not perfect documentation. The goal is helping your family understand what matters and why.

  • Extending patience as we continue refining the experience
  • Helping us better understand what families truly need during moments of transition, inheritance, and remembrance

You do not need technical expertise.

You do not need to document everything you own.

You do not need your entire family to participate.

You simply need a willingness to begin.
